Google's latest home made mobile promises a slick stock Android experience and brilliant photography. But the cheaper Galaxy S8 and the pricer iPhone 8 are similarly compelling. Why should I care about the Google Pixel 2? Since the Android operating system launched in 2008, Google has offered it out to other smartphone vendors for free. There are huge range of Android smartphones on the market, covering everything from cheap and cheerful phones like the Wileyfox Swift 2 X, through to high-end handsets like the  Galaxy Note 8 . Unfortunately, most smartphone makers modify Android to differentiate their devices from competitors'. The result is a confusing array of user experiences and slow software and security updates (a problem exacerbated by carrier networks). Samsung Galaxy Note 8 wins over Apple iPhone 8 Plus in speed test Looks like Samsung has hit the right chord with Galaxy Note 8 after the Note 7 debacle. In a real-world speed test done by a Youtuber, the iPhone 8 Plus lost out to Note 8 in terms of performance. Apparently, the Note 8 is faster than the iPhone 8 Plus. While speed test aren’t really the most scientific way to assess the performance of a device, it does provide an insight on how fast the devices would work in real-life situations. YouTuber David Rahimi, who has been making speed test videos for years now, shot a speed test between the Galaxy Note 8 and iPhone 8 Plus for his PhoneBuff channel. He uses a consistent and straightforward process to compare and rank smartphone speeds. A fixed set of 16 apps in two laps are opened on a device for the speed tests. The apps include light programmes like Settings and Calendar, as well as apps that require more intensive loads such as games and a Photoshop image export....

Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 plus Welcome to Gadget Dreams and Nightmares, the column that really wants to make a lot of jokes about exploding smartphones while perusing the most compelling recent gadget announcements. In your latest edition, we probe the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+, a 360-degree live-streaming camera, and an automatic guitar tuner. As always, these are not reviews, in part because I wasn't flown out for the S8 launch event to test the phones with my own hands. Ahem. The ratings relate only to how much I'd like to try each item. Galactic Advances Samsung is back with a new pair of flagship smartphones it desperately needs to be hits in the wake of previous handsets that were a touch too, erm, explodey. The Galaxy S8 and S8+ have dispensed with the physical home button and added an artificial intelligence assistant, screens that so very almost kill the bezel, and fingerprint sensors on the rear. The Super  AMOLED  screens have 2960 x 1440 resolution...
